Primary Eye Care – NHS Funded Eyecare
Primary Eyecare Services is a not-for-profit organisation delivering NHS-funded eye care services across England.
Their website was one of three that we have built in the optometry sector, with the others being LOCSU and LOC Online.
Primary Eyecare work in partnership with the NHS, local opticians, and healthcare providers to make eye care more accessible, offering services like urgent eye treatment, minor eye condition support, glaucoma monitoring, and specialist care through local practices rather than hospitals.
In short they:

- Reduce pressure on GPs and hospitals
- Deliver community-based eye care at scale
Mobile Web Design
As with most websites these days, the majority of traffic comes from mobile devices.

There’s a dedicated news area and also a completely separate “For Professionals” section of the website.
In this dedicated area, GPs, Pharmacies, Practices, delivering and not delivering their services, and their Professional Development events can find anything that they need.
The website includes quick and easy to use translation functionality and a highly intuitive search facility.

We continue to update the Primary Eyecare website on a monthly basis.
This keeps the site completely secure and ensures the functionality of the website is working as expected.
For a public facing site like this, this is essential, and ensures visitor safety particular with regards to sensitive information that may be submitted via forms is protected.
Recent updates
Primary Eyecare recently employed an in-house expert to maintain and refresh the look of their website.
Whilst they were very happy with how the site was working, they required a great deal more control over certain elements of their website.
These are some of the additional configuration options that we provided for them:
- Unlimited colour options outside of the brand guidelines.
- Background gradients.
- Full control of content block widths as opposed to uniform pre-defined options.
- Full control over font sizes.
- Updated header region.
- New main navigation menu.
- Additional hero content block configuration options.
- Updated search functionality.
Generally when building websites, lots of these design decisions are locked in.
This means that regardless of what someone does when they are adding or editing content, there is a consitent and optimised experieces across the entire website.
For instance, a set of brand guidelines for a website will determine which background colours can be used and then the colour of the font on that background will be automatically used too.
With an in-house expert, Primary Eye Care are able to break out of these guidelines at will and keep track of these decisions to ensure the consistenty is maintained themselves.
