We are delighted to now be working with two businesses in the local Reading area who required some help with their WordPress websites. Belinda Knight Solicitor and Reading Pneumatic Services Ltd.
Belinda Knight Solicitor
Belinda Knight is a solicitor (LLB, Hons) with over twenty years extensive specialist experience in the field of criminal law.
The company looking after their current website was shutting down and the following was required.
- Domain migration
- Website migration
- Email migration
A new hosting account was set up and the first thing we did was push the live website onto a temporary domain.
This allowed the client to check that the migrated website was exactly as per the live website and had been migrated properly before putting it live.
Following this, we migrated the domain into the new hosting and then successfully set up their new email account.
It was imperative that there was zero down time for the website and email and there were a large amount of important emails that required migration.
Everything went smoothly and we provided some instructions on how to hook up the new emails to their Outlook app.
Reading Pneumatic Services Ltd
Their current website had a few issues:
- Emails were not being sent from the contact form.
- Updates hadn’t been made for a substantial time.
- An automated feature between blogs and social media was broken.
Broken contact form
The main form on the website was allowing customers to fill out the form but it was never getting into the client’s Inbox.
This meant important emails had been missed.
Luckily form entries were recorded in another source and we started by forwarding all of these onto the client.
We then reconfigured some settings, moving away from Azure which was the root of the problem, to SMTP2GO, an email delivery service with a very generous free plan that is more than enough for the client.
The client is now receiving all of their emails as expected which is making their day-to-day life much easier.
WordPress Updates
WordPress requires frequent updates to maintain functionality and security.
If these are left for a long time then updates do become more difficult and there is a bigger chance of things going wrong.
The first thing we did was take a backup of the site.
If the worst happens, we can easily restore the backup.
We then pulled a copy of the website down to our local machine and did the updates there, carefully checking each update broke nothing on the website.
Once we were happy with this, we then pushed this back to the live website.
